En esta publicación se presentan los resultados experimentales sobre el comportamiento de cultivares de las especies anuales, bianuales y perennes correspondiente al período de evaluación 2003, y se presentan los resultados de los análisis combinados de experimentos con información de los años 2002 y 2003 para especies anuales y un resumen de los resultados de 2002 para las especies bianuales, y de los años 2001 y 2002 para las especies perennes.
La mayoría de los ensayos de Evaluación de especies forrajeras se sembraron en La Estanzuela, departamento de Colonia. En el año 2003, los ensayos de las especies leguminosas Lotus pedunculatus, Lotus subbiflorus, Lotus tenuis, Trifolium fragiferum y Lotononis bainessi fueron sembrados en INIA Treinta y Tres en diferentes tipos de suelos, por considerarse que estas especies están más adaptadas a esas condiciones agroecológicas.

ABSTRACT.- Residual feed intake (RFI) has become in a widely spread index of feed efficiency. Although most of beef cattle systems in the world are pasture-based, RFI evaluation and research is usually performed in confinement conditions. In this context, residual heat production (RHP) estimated as the difference between actual and expected heat production (HP), could allow to identify efficient animals. Thus, the aim of this work was to evaluate the relationship between paternal estimated breeding values (EBV) for RFI and beef heifer efficiency, measured as RHP, as well as its association with heifers' productive and reproductive performance on grazing conditions.
